The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education is experiencing significant growth. Chatbot is designed to capitalize tutor knowledge and transfer it to students. In 2023, studies showed Math proficiency among Malaysian students has been declining. PISA 2022 results demonstrated that Malaysia’s score was 409, significantly below the OECD average of 472. In contrast, Singapore, the top global performer, scored 575. This project aims to: (1) Identify the underlying factors contributing to students’ struggles in mathematics, (2) Design and deploy an AI chatbot named Mathilda utilizing advanced AI algorithms, and (3) Evaluate Mathilda’s efficacy in enhancing mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills among users. The programs used to create Mathilda are Python, PyCharm and Discord Developer Portal. Mathilda’s features are solution by text, voice command, image-based OCR and gamified challenges as fun elements. Mathilda constantly learns from users and accuracy is being tested. During early tests, users reported that Mathilda is helpful in providing step-by-step solution and is able to clarify complex concepts. Users highlighted how convenient Mathilda is. Later developments focus on language expansion and integrating Mathilda into school curriculum as supplementary learning tool.
