ABSTRACT

Reading skills are essential in the learning process of primary school students. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the innovative ‘Karka Kasadara’ kit in enhancing reading skills among Year 3 students at SJK(T) Sungkai. This kit is specifically designed as an interactive learning aid that incorporates elements of games, QR code technology, and structured activities to engage students and boost their motivation to read.

This study employs a quasi-experimental method involving six students who have yet to master reading skills. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, and direct observations. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students' reading proficiency after using the ‘Karka Kasadara’ kit, with notable differences in test scores before and after the intervention. Students became more enthusiastic about reading, showed greater interest, and demonstrated improved word recognition and spelling abilities.

In conclusion, the ‘Karka Kasadara’ kit has proven effective in enhancing students' reading skills, while also enabling teachers to conduct more interactive and efficient lessons. This study suggests that the use of this kit be expanded to other schools and integrated into early literacy education programs.
