Background: Multiple factors influence an individual’s health and utilisation of care services.
It is critical to understand how to address the underutilisation of healthcare services and barriers to accessing healthcare among migrants and tourists to increase healthcare service utilisation. Previous studies have found that both authorised and unauthorised migrants use fewer healthcare facilities. Therefore, information about appropriate healthcare facilities, the locations of clinics and hospitals, and relevant expenditures is crucial for migrants and tourists.
Objectives: This project aims to develop a smart, friendly mobile and smartwatch app for tourists and migrants to access accurate, relevant information about the healthcare system and available specialist appointment facilities.
Methods: The project's methodology includes research, design, prototyping, testing, and validation. After conducting a literature review and identifying needs and market gaps, we will next develop a TuMiHApp (Tourists migrants health app) prototype with migrants' and tourists’ IC numbers, current locations, and chronic and acute health problems. The mobile and smartwatch app will track nearby hospitals, clinics, and specialists by disease and cost. This app will also help with scheduling appointments and tallying the facilities and expenditures across different hospitals and clinics. It provides information on effective cultural adaptation, healthy dietary habits, physical activity, and stress management. Therefore, a living lab theme will be incorporated there. Prototyping will involve user testing to ensure functionality and usability. After that, we will improve the design according to the feedback. We will validate the accuracy of healthcare facilities and will obtain the necessary certifications.
Conclusion: TuMiHApp will support public health by reducing disparities and improving overall community health. This app will create a health database of tourists and authorised and unauthorised migrants, facilitating proper healthcare for them and making it easier to monitor their health status.
