The TokIngat 1.0 project was developed to address the common problem among primary school pupils who often forget to bring the correct textbooks according to their daily timetable. This situation has affected students’ academic performance and discipline, as some are reprimanded by teachers, while others choose to carry all their books every day, resulting in heavy schoolbags. In more serious cases, parents have been summoned by the headmaster due to repeated incidents of forgotten books. To overcome this issue, TokIngat 1.0 was designed as a smart assistance system that automatically reminds both students and parents about the required books for the day. The system integrates micro:bit, a Reka:Bit expansion board, Grove WiFi module, powerbank, and an LCD display. With a simple button press, pupils can view the subjects scheduled for the day on the LCD screen, while the system simultaneously sends an automated notification via Internet of Things (IoT) to parents’ Telegram accounts one hour before school begins. This innovation provides added value by enabling parents to easily monitor their children’s school preparation, reducing the likelihood of forgotten books, and alleviating the burden of carrying unnecessary textbooks. Initial testing has shown highly positive responses, with students becoming more organized, schoolbags significantly lighter, and parents feeling more reassured in supervising their children’s readiness. Overall, TokIngat 1.0 not only addresses a real and recurring challenge in students’ daily routines but also demonstrates potential as a scalable IoT-based educational tool that can be implemented widely in primary schools across the nation.
