HS436: Periodic Pair Up (PPU): A Fun, Simple Way To Help Secondary Students Understand The Periodic Table Better.

SARA NISA BINTI FAKARUDIN LABUAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Our survey found that many secondary students struggle with Chemistry, especially the Periodic Table—71.8% struggle in science, and 75.2% find the table hard to understand. Dr. Teoh Tek Jiun explained that memorising elements is tough because each one has a name, symbol, atomic number, and weight. To help, we created Periodic Pair Up (PPU), a fun and visual method using pictures of everyday items linked to elements. This makes learning easier through mental imagery. After using PPU, students’ scores improved significantly, and they enjoyed learning together. We hope to adapt PPU to help students in other subjects too.
