This issue that we have chosen for our project is on organic waste management. According to the New Straits Times, in Malaysia, 44.5% of waste are food waste. Every day, Malaysian generates 38,000 tonnes of waste and 15,000 tonnes are food waste. The amount of food waste generated by Malaysians in 18 days is the size of the Petronas Twin Towers. This is an ongoing issue, and it has become more serious and it leads to the creation of more landfills. Food wastes are usually transported to landfills to decompose. Leachate from the waste will enter the groundwater and threatens our water source. In addition, it emits greenhouse gases like methane, and traps heat in our atmosphere. This would pose serious threats to our environment and ecosystems. Therefore, Compostbotz is created to solve these issues to tackle waste management issue. By doing so, it can reduce land and water pollution as it reduces organic waste ended up in landfills. Besides that, Compostbotz can turn waste into composts to be used as fertilizers for farming. For waste management, it can reduce operating cost as it can reduce the use of manpower. Furthermore, it can educate the public, schools and households on organic waste management.
