US347: IOT-BASED SMART SAFETY SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATIC IRON POWER CUT OFF

ABSTRACT

This project presents the development of an IoT-based smart safety system
that automatically cuts off power to a household electric iron when left unattended
or idle for a specified period. The system aims to reduce fire hazards and improve
safety by integrating sensor-based detection, real-time monitoring, and user-
controlled settings. An ESP32 microcontroller functions as the core processor,
working with a 5V relay module to control the iron’s power supply and an
MPU6050 sensor to detect motion and orientation. The Blynk IoT platform enables
remote monitoring, and timer customization through a smartphone application,
while the Arduino IDE supports system programming and integration. When
inactivity exceeds the user-defined duration or when an abnormal tilt angle is
detected, and automatically shuts off the iron. The results demonstrate the
system’s effectiveness in enhancing safety, providing convenience, and
preventing potential electrical fire hazards.
