HS175: Development Of A Natural Extract-Based Toothpaste From Organic Waste For Inhibiting Cariogenic Bacteria: Lemon Peel And Tea Leaf Residues

Sirin Thaworn Vareechiangmai School

This project aims to develop an antibacterial toothpaste using natural extracts from lemon peel and used tea leaves two common organic wastes. These ingredients contain hesperidin and polyphenols, which exhibit promising inhibitory effects against cariogenic bacteria responsible for tooth decay. The formulated toothpaste showed significantly larger inhibition zones compared to the control, especially when using each extract separately. This eco-innovation not only promotes oral health especially for people at higher risk of cavities but also adds value to food waste, offering a safe and sustainable alternative to chemical-based oral care products.
