SCENTINEL is a smart smoke alarm system aimed at individuals suffering from hearing impairment. The system detects smoke using smoke and heat detectors and alerts the user by releasing a strong odor, for example, vinegar or menthol, as a preliminary warning signal. For further protection, the system is also equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the form of the Arduino UNO R4 WiFi and a mobile app developed in-house, which sends real-time notifications to caregivers or relatives. In cases of emergency, the system is programmed to dial emergency services (999) automatically. The project is envisioned as an inclusive, accessible, and efficient fire alarm system that outshines conventional sound-based alarms.
