MIRAST’3 is an innovative product developed from observations and feedback collected during teaching and learning activities in technical workshops. Although the product is not yet commercially available, it shows strong potential for application in machining industries and technical education institutions due to its practical design and functionality. A milling machine operates by moving a workpiece toward a rotating cutting tool along three axes: X, Y, and Z. This movement is normally controlled by a hand wheel that allows the operator to manually guide the machine table. However, when the hand wheel becomes damaged, it disrupts the machining process and affects operational efficiency. Conventional hand wheels are often complex in design, costly to replace, and their spare parts are difficult to obtain, making maintenance time-consuming and uneconomical. To overcome these problems, MIRAST’3 was designed as a direct replacement for the conventional hand wheel. The product is lighter, easier to operate, and simpler to maintain. It is mainly made from aluminium and mild steel, materials selected for their strength, durability, and safety for users. The project has also been further improved by adding a sprocket mechanism, allowing MIRAST’3 to be adapted and used on other types of machines. In addition, its ergonomic dual-function design enables users to operate the machine while standing upright, improving comfort, reducing fatigue, and increasing overall work efficiency.
