US129: LOST IN THE WIZARD'S REALM: CONQUER ENGLISH TO ESCAPE

SITI KHAIRANI QALBI BINTI AHAMAD UNIVERSITI PENDIDIKAN SULTAN IDRIS

This innovation video solves the problem of primary school students' low engagement and limited English competence in the classroom especially when it comes to learning critical language skills such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Traditional classroom approaches often fail to provide meaningful interaction, which results in students becoming less motivated to study English and study passively in the class. Thus, an interactive English camp module based on a gamified checkpoint learning approach is proposed in this innovation video. The first checkpoint is Letter for the Wizard, which emphasises sentence construction and reading comprehension. The second checkpoint is Correct the Spell, which combines grammar and listening through error identification. Next checkpoint is the Fortune Cookies, which improves vocabulary and sentence formation through a mix-and-match exercise. Last but not least is the Merchant Plaza, which fosters speaking abilities through role-playing conversations in real life settings. This makes up the four primary activities in the module. This innovation encourages contextual language use, active engagement, and group learning. It is intended to increase students confidence, active participation, and improving overall English skills. By conducting these activities, learning will be more effective, interactive and successful for primary school students. A QR code for more checkpoints and grammar exercises is included at the end of the video to help students boost their confidence and further evaluate their comprehension. It also enables the teachers to assess the effectiveness of this innovation and practice it in their classroom.
