US199: PlantPal: Smart Indoor Watering Robot With Self-Refill And Charging

Lim Yi Jian Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Indoor plants not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of office spaces but also contribute to better air quality and employee well-being. However, maintaining these plants can be challenging, particularly in busy work environments where overwatering or neglect often leads to plant damage. This project introduces PlantPal, a smart indoor watering robot with self-refill and charging designed to simplify indoor plant care. The robot is equipped with sensors that are supposed to determine soil moisture and provide the correct amount of water needed, thus ensuring perfect hydration while avoiding the risk of overwatering and underwatering. PlantPal has autonomous navigation to move between different plants in a given indoor space. Its compact size and user-friendly design make it very compatible with offices and houses where space is limited. Preliminary evaluations have shown that PlantPal maintains plant health with little or no user interaction—a robust, durable substitute for the typical office vegetation. This approach considers proper water management and ease of use by users; thus, making it quite feasible and environmentally sound in modern offices.
