US44: Velocity Approximation Of Kuala Lumpur Bus Rides: Weekday Vs. Weekend Comparison Using The Discrete Least Squares Method

Aina Zulaikha Binti Alauddin Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)

This study examines the Discrete Least Squares Method (DLSM) to analyze weekday versus weekend traffic flow in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Data from the GOKL CityBus route (Titiwangsa to KL Sentral) collected time and distance for each station, starting 1:00 p.m. on a normal weekday (Thursday) and a lighter traffic weekend day (Sunday). Using third-order polynomials, DLSM derived continuous and piecewise continuous functions to approximate station velocities. Results reveal smoother weekday traffic, with less congestion than weekends. DLSM effectively models velocity, favoring piecewise continuous functions for accuracy. Future studies should expand data collection beyond one route and time, for comprehensive traffic analysis.
