ABSTRACT

Food waste remains a major issue in modern households, mainly because people struggle to monitor food freshness and expiry in real time. As a result, perishable items are often thrown away before they are consumed, leading to unnecessary waste and financial loss. IntelliChill is a smart, web-based food monitoring system that combines image recognition, expiry prediction, and automated notifications in one platform. The system uses a YOLOv8 artificial intelligence model to detect and classify food items stored in a refrigerator and estimate their expiry dates based on food type and storage duration. A web dashboard displays the status of each item as Fresh, Expiring Soon, or Expired, helping users make better consumption decisions. IntelliChill is built using a Raspberry Pi 4 with a Camera Module V3, supported by a Flask backend, Firebase Firestore, and a responsive web interface. Overall, the system provides a practical and affordable solution for managing food at home while demonstrating the real-world application of artificial intelligence.
