Background: Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that enables the blending of the virtual world and the physical world, superimposing virtual data that is generated electronically into the physical world. In recent years, AR technology has been continuously implemented in education including medical education and it has the potential to enhance learning. However, it is still unclear if AR can impact the learning motivation of pre clinical medical students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Aim: This study aimed to determine the impact of Ventilatory augmented reality application on learning motivation of Year 2 medical students during the 2022/2023 session in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Method: A pretest-posttest study was conducted among Year 2 medical students during the 2022/2023 session in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. The sampling method used in this study was simple random sampling. The selected participants were required to complete a questionnaire consisting of the pretest questionnaire before they were exposed to the application and a posttest questionnaire after using the application. Paired t-test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank were used for data analysis. Questionnaire: The questionnaire used in this study was adapted from the Instructional Materials Motivation Survey (IMMS) questionnaire, which consists of 36 questions based on the ARCS model. Results: All of the components (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction and learning motivation) showed an increase after using the application. Attention, confidence, satisfaction and learning motivation all showed significant results where p < 0.001 while relevance also showed significant results where p = 0.002.
