This innovation delves into the difficulties encountered by year 1 and kindergarten students when tasked with drawing straight lines using a ruler especially. The study aims to identify and understand the specific challenges that young learners face in developing this foundational skill, which is fundamental to their cognitive and motor skill development. Observations of classrooms and individual student interactions with rulers during drawing activities are conducted to gather qualitative insights into the challenges. Preliminary findings reveal that students encounter various obstacles in mastering the art of drawing straight lines with a ruler. These challenges range from difficulties in grasping and manipulating the ruler accurately to struggles with maintaining consistent pressure and control while drawing. Understanding the hurdles faced by students in drawing straight lines with a ruler is crucial to design targeted interventions that support the development of this fundamental skill. By addressing these challenges early in a child's educational journey, the Ezline is designed to incorporate features that facilitate ease of use and enhance accuracy in line drawing. Preliminary results indicate that the Ezline design positively influences students' ability to draw straight lines with increased precision.
